It is a safety function that monitors for the presence of gas or a fuel leak in the fuel supply system and triggers alarms and, where required, emergency shutdown (ESD) of the fuel supply.
Both fuels introduce risks that conventional fuel oil systems are not designed for. Methanol is flammable and toxic in concentration; ammonia is toxic and corrosive. Early detection allows the crew and the automation system to isolate the fuel supply before a leak becomes a larger incident.
Auramarine delivers gas and leak detection as an integrated part of its methanol and ammonia fuel supply systems, engineered together with ESD logic and, for ammonia, the ammonia release mitigation system (ARMS), rather than as a standalone unit.
Confirmed gas detection is linked to the vessel's ESD logic, which can automatically isolate the affected part of the fuel supply system to prevent the leak from escalating.
