Auramarine Automation and ESD: The Control Layer of the Fuel Supply System

Auramarine's automation and ESD systems form the control layer of the fuel supply system, running the process control that keeps fuel properties at the engine's target value and the emergency shutdown (ESD) logic that protects the system when a safety-critical condition is detected.

The same automation architecture is applied across methanol, ammonia, biofuel and fuel oil systems, adapted to the safety requirements of each fuel.

Fast process control for precise fuel properties

The automation system runs continuous, demanding process control, adjusting fuel properties such as pressure and temperature to the target value required by the engine in use. Control logic responds to load changes and operating conditions, keeping fuel supply stable across the full running range.

ESD logic for safety-critical operation

ESD logic is built into the automation system to isolate, shut down or bring the fuel supply to a safe state when a safety-critical condition occurs. On methanol systems, this includes coordination with gas and leak detection and ventilation interfaces. On ammonia systems, the automation system also coordinates automatic purging, valve operation and release mitigation, reflecting the additional safety requirements of handling a toxic fuel.

The automation and ESD system is designed as part of Auramarine's complete fuel supply system offering, not as a standalone control panel. It is engineered into methanol, ammonia, biofuel and fuel oil systems alike, giving customers a consistent control philosophy regardless of which fuel, or combination of fuels, a vessel runs on.

Documentation built for approval and operation

Every automation and ESD system is delivered with the documentation needed for design approval and safe operation: system description, cause and effect matrixes, and alarm and ESD diagrams. This documentation supports the approval process with class and gives crews and operators a clear reference for how the system behaves under normal and fault conditions.

Automation and ESD form one element of Auramarine's system design work, which covers ship layout, IECEx regulations, safety aspects and interfaces with the shipyard, ship owner, design offices, class, engine makers and other suppliers. This means the automation system is engineered together with the rest of the fuel supply system, not bolted on afterwards.
